This table by Gustav Siegel for J. & J. Kohn perfectly illustrates the evolution of bentwood furniture towards the modernist aesthetic of the Viennese Secession. With its clean lines, geometric openwork patterns and combination of bentwood and brass, it reflects the desire to reconcile industrial innovation with decorative refinement. Designed as part of a coherent furniture ensemble, it also reflects the influence of Wiener Werkstätte principles on J. & J. Kohn's production in the early 20th century.
