Awarded the Prix de la Critique in 1971 (the youngest painter, after Bernard Buffet, to receive this distinction), Jean-Pierre Dolla, born in Flayosc in the Var region of France, followed the classic path of the Arts Décoratifs (Grenoble) and the Beaux Arts (Paris).
Evolving from a figurative style strongly influenced by the 19th-century masters and their perfect compositions, to an abstract style strongly influenced by the 50s (De Staël, Jackson Pollock), he combines action painting and colorful figuration, both on landscapes and on a female nude.
