École florentine du XVIème siècle - Lot 154
École florentine du XVIème siècle
Head of a bearded man
Carrara marble
H. 22 cm
Minor accidents
This very fine quality man's head in Carrara marble displays the characteristics of a work produced in Italy during the Renaissance: it is influenced by ancient art, in particular the representation of Heracles' heads, while combining a lively and original technique in the treatment of the locks of hair and the beard: the whole subtly animates the face. The work, which undoubtedly comes from a major monumental decor, may have been produced in the Florentine Mannerist sphere, around Daniele Da Volterra (1509-1566).
